Below are general criteria and team essentials for prospective teams:
- All team members must be ages 9-14 and in the 4th-8th grade.
- Each team must be comprised of a minimum of 2 members and no more than 10 members per team.
- The team will need room for a 4'x 8' playing field mat. Between practices playing field mats can be stored rolled up, unrolled under furniture (which keeps them nice and flat), or taped to plywood and stored upright.
- Each team needs at least one robot. Robots can be purchased through the FLL registration site, through LEGO Education and through retailers. The following LEGO systems can be used for competition:
- SPIKE Prime (current system)
- EV3
- Mindstorm
- NXT
- RCX
- Each team needs an electronic device (laptop, Chromebook, iPad) that can be brought to competitions.
- LEGO Education provides free software that can be downloaded or run from a browser. We recommend always downloading your software and code as many tournament host sites do not provide any internet access.
- IMPORTANT NOTE - downloading your code via Bluetooth is not allowed at a tournament. Please bring a USB cable with you. instead.
- Teams can build playing field tables from plywood and 2x3s, so their practice fields are more like the competition fields.
- Table building instructions
- Some vendors offer pre-built options that offer a more portable solution. Please note that these can be expensive and are not used at any official tournaments in Georgia.
